The Power of Makeup

Whether you feel confident in your makeup or natural complexion, I am sure after reading this blog post and seeing these photos you’ll realise just how powerful makeup can be.

BeFunky Collage.jpg

I have seen many bloggers and YouTubers talking about ‘The Power of Makeup’ and I was so excited to create it myself. I have a huge interest in makeup and I am always buying a new beauty product, experimenting with different looks and reading reviews and beauty blog posts.

I wanted to create this post for a number of reasons:

  1. To compare how I looked with and without makeup
  2. To show it is okay to wear makeup
  3. To show it is okay to not wear makeup
  4. To show the power of just a few beauty products

I feel like so many girls are judged everyday on how much makeup they wear or how little makeup. I think it is great to love your imperfections and I do let my family, boyfriend and close friends see me bare skinned. But also I feel a lot more confident in myself once I have applied my makeup. I feel pretty and happy.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. I really enjoyed showing ‘The Power of Makeup’. If you have done this post or video please comment your links below; I will look forward to reading them.

January Favourites

Hello lovelies,

I can’t believe it is February. That means I have officially completed dry January! My friends, family and boyfriend all thought I wouldn’t be able to do it. But I didn’t have a single drop of alcohol and I didn’t even miss it.

I had quite a few beauty products in January that I just couldn’t get enough of!

Urban Decay – Smoky Palette

My all time favourite during January was my Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette. I have started doing my eye make up quite dark lately and this palette has some gorgeous shades. I use the shades password, whiskey, combust and thirteen for a more natural look. I find the shades high, dirtysweet and radar go really well together. The dark colours in the middle of the palette create the perfect smoky eye. Overall Urban Decay hasn’t failed to dissapoint me. These colours are gorgeous and very different to their other Naked palettes. I also love the brush that comes with this eye shadow palette as I find it is great for blending.

Clinique – Even Better foundation

At the start of January I bought my first ever designer foundation. I have only ever used drugstore foundations however I thought I would treat myself and get my skin matched. The lovely lady within Debenhams, Clinique found the perfect colour for me. I have used this foundation everyday. The foundation costs £25 and I do really think it is worth the money as it has great coverage. It is great if you are buying your first designer foundation!

MAC – Copperplate Matte Eyeshadow

For Christmas I got bought this gorgeous MAC eye shadow. This is now my second MAC eye shadow and I can honestly say it is so good! I don’t have any similar colours to this and it is so pigmented. MAC eye shadows can be a little pricey as they about £13 and it is only a small tub; they do last ages though!

Urban Decay – All Nighter

This is my life saver! I always used to borrow Amy’s before a night out and it actually kept my make up on! It is so good and really worth the money. I used to get scared and think it would make my make up run when I sprayed it, but it doesn’t aha!

Yves Saint Laurent – Concealer

I have needed a designer concealer for a while now and this is definitely worth the money. It has amazing coverage and it stays on for the whole day. I love the packaging as well!

Yves Saint Laurent – 206

My first every YSL lipstick! I am in love with this colour. This lipstick is so lush and stays on for such a long time. Also the packaging is gorgeous. Perfect for winter.

MAC Lipstick – D for Dangerous

I can never ever not like MAC lipsticks, there will always be one in my favourites! I have a thing for matte lipsticks at the moment and this colour is so pretty.

NARS – Contour Blush

This was a lovely Christmas treat! The colours are gorgeous and it is very pigmented. It is a little pricey though as it is about £30. However it has great coverage and the product lasts ages.

Real Techniques – Flat Contour Brush

This brush is from the Real Techniques bold metals collection. I love the colour of this brush, it is a beautiful rose gold. I love how it has such a long handle as well because I find it easier to apply my make up with. The bristles are very soft and gentle on the skin as well.

Have you used any of these products before? Comment links to your favourites below as I would love to read all about them.

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions 3 Step Review

So I have been getting a lot of spots and redness lately so I treated myself to some Clinique skincare products. My bestfriend recommended this to me and now I am recommended it all to you!

So I have been using this for about a week now every night and I am already noticing the results. My redness isn’t as bad anymore and my spots are slowly starting to clear up.

First you use the Anti Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam. I just squirt a little bit on my hand and rub it into my face.

Then you use the clarifying lotion. I recommend you shaking it before you use it as some of the product settles at the bottom. I pour a little bit of this onto a cotton pad and then dab it onto my face. It is a little strong and you can feel it on your skin but this is to unclog your pores. Then you use the clearing moisturiser and apply it all over your face.

It doesn’t take long to do this routine, it only takes me about 10 minutes. The results are great!

I highly recommend this product and it is at an affordable price of £25.00. You can purchase it here at Boots.

Let me know if you have used this product before and what the results were for you?

Autumnal make-up

Hello lovelies,

The leaves are finally turning brown, the air is starting to cool and the days are becoming shorter. Autumn is here. Autumn is my favourite season, I get so excited for it. Maybe too excited…

I love the colours in autumn. I love going on walks as I think that everywhere looks so pretty. I find that I wear nicer clothes in Autumn compared to Summer and Spring and I have no idea why.

So today I thought I’d blog a few of my make up items that I will be wearing these next few months. I wear a lot of browns and golds with a dark shade of lipstick.

I recently just treated myself to a new Mac lipstick in the colour ‘Sin’. This shade is gorgeous and it is perfect for Autumn. If you are a little nervous of wearing a dark shade,  use a lipstick brush and gently apply it on with the brush instead of using the lipstick straight to your lips. This then makes it a lot lighter and then you can gradually start building the layers up when you feel a little more comfortable.

I have just bought Tanya Burr’s new eyeshadow quad. I think this is just ideal for autumn as it contains golds and browns. It also has a really cute glitter shade which is nice for if you are going out. I have been loving the sleek contour kit lately and I find that this is such a nice shade. It isn’t too dark for my skin and it blends in so nicely. The highlighter I have been using by Rimmel gives your cheeks that little shine as they can become quite rosey in the autumn time. I find that I use a little more foundation in the Autumn and Winter time as my cheeks and nose get very red, so Rimmel’s 25 hour foundation is really ideal for me. The concealer I have been using lately has been giving me some great coverage under my eyes, it is at such a good price as well!

Let me know what your favourite Autumnal beauty products are; I look forward to reading them!

Experimenting with makeup brands..

Hi guys,

So it has been a while since I have done a proper blog post. This is because I have been preparing a lot for my exams and also in my spare time I started up my own Youtube channel! This is something I have wanted to do for ages but just never had the confidence to do it. But finally I sat behind a camera and filmed my first video of me doing my favourite make up routine! Then because I received some lovely feedback I filmed a Q&A of questions you asked me on Instagram so you could all get to know me a little bit more. Thank you for your views and lovely comments.

A week ago I received my makeup that I bought off Becca! I love trying new makeup and experimenting with different brands. Becca is an old family friend of mine. We both met each other when my Auntie and Uncle got married and we were both bridesmaids together. I was only 7 at the time and Becca was 8 or 9 (I think hehe). All I remember is we kept pretending to be swans and also taught the Cheeky Girl dance to EVERYONE. We used to write to each other too because me and Becca unfortunately do not leave close which is something I hate! I only get to see her about once a year. Becca introduced me to the wonderful world of blogging and I am so thankful for it! We are so similar and share the same interests so she knew I would love it. Follow her blog and you can read all her posts about beauty, fashion and her products she makes such as her amazing scented candles!

Now she has introduced me to her amazing make up brand that she sells. It is called Sonya Forever Living Products and you can visit the website here. The makeup reminds me a bit of Bareminerals. It is at a high price but it is very good quality so it is worth it. I purchased the eyeshadow quad Rose Bronze. I love these colours and they go perfect together, they are much pigmented and last for ages. I also purchased one of their lipsticks in the colour Watermelon. This is a beautiful colour and it is perfect for summer. It is a bit like a coral colour and is very moisturising. Becca gave me another lipstick for free which was so nice of her! This was in the colour peach and this is a nice nude colour and goes with anything. I love love love this make up brand. I will definitely be purchasing more of these items and experimenting with some more of their products. I highly recommend everyone to buy these make up products and you will not be disappointed. I will leave all the links below where you can like Becca’s facebook page and be in a chance to win one of their mascaras!

See you lovelies!

Belated favourites

Okay so my blog posts that I said would be up every Wednesday didn’t happen this Wednesday due to my exams coming up and my last final weeks of College. Lets just say it has been very stressful. I am getting prepared for my exams now though and feeling a lot more confident about myself and future. I am very excited to finish college.

So I haven’t done a monthly favourites since January so I thought I would just show you a few of my favorite things I have been using a lot recently. Some are new and some I have been using for ages.

Love Tanya-
I bought this book not long ago and I haven’t had time to read it as frequently as I would like to…however I love it! I am just under half way through and I am really enjoying Tanya’s beauty tips and learning more about her.

Floral phone case-
I bought this in London and it was very cheap. It is super cute and it has been on my phone ever since. It is good quality as well due to none of the print coming off.

Enchanted Grace perfume-
Okay so I have to admit I have had this for ages but I have only just started using it. It is such a ‘fresh’ and ‘pretty’ scent and makes me feel very Spring like.

I have heard so many reviews on this so I just had to buy it! I am very pleased with it and it has great coverage. It hides my blemishes and dark circles underneath my eyes.

Benefit pore professional-
As I mentioned in my ‘If it’s blue it’s mine’ post, my friend Emily gave me this and I think it is amazing. It definitely does the trick and it makes my foundation go on lovely after using this.

Maybelline Mascara-
I have also read so many good reviews on this mascara and for a drugstore brand I think it is very good. I love the shape of the brush and it applies very evenly and not in huge clumps like a few drugstore mascara’s do.

Batiste Dry shampoo-
I love the packaging of this dry shampoo and the scent is gorgeous. It has came out in such a perfect season. If only it wasn’t limited edition…

Dr rescue baby lips-
I do love baby lips however the Dr rescue ones are amazing. I prefer them so much more to the ordinary ones and I have been applying it everyday since I bought it. I highly recommend it.

Real techniques Blush brush-
I have never been a fan of using much blusher however since I bought my Revlon highlighter I just can’t stop using this brush. It is a cute pink, good quality and applies the blusher on perfectly.

Revlon highlighter-
I first heard about this in Tanya Burr’s video so I just had to treat myself to some. The colours go lovely together and it makes my cheeks look just that extra pink.

White block sandals-
I have wanted some of these for ages! They were mentioned in my wish list post and I am so glad I bought them. I wear them mostly with my high wasted jeans but they go with pretty much anything. 100% worth the money.

So guys that is all my ‘belated favourites’, a bit of each month really. I hope you enjoyed reading my post! Thank you for all the continued support. Don’t forget to follow me on twitter @inspiredelegan and Instagram @_inspiredelegance

Thanks! Love you lots.

How to get clean make up brushes

Hello lovelies,

So it’s that time again…preparing for exams. My exams are just in a few weeks! So I have been revising, getting last bits of coursework done and just exam prep. I have an ICT exam, Media exam and a 12 hour practical textiles exam. Oh the joys are being an A level student!

So I am very sorry for not being able to write a blog post for a while! I am going to try and upload a new blog post every Wednesday around afternoon time. Then if I have time (hopefully) I will be posting another one during the week. So look out for a new blog post every Wednesday and a surprise one in the week.

Today I am going to show you how I clean my makeup brushes and what with. It is something we all have to admit to not doing enough (well I know I do). But once you clean your brushes you feel like your make up looks so much better on your skin.

I use the Mac brush cleanser for just £10.00. I buy mine from Debenhams! So first I damp my makeup brushes and use warm water. I then pour a little bit of the mac brush cleanser onto the brush (I work with one brush at a time). I then work through the brush with my fingers, pushing all the makeup out of the brush. I keep adding a little bit of warm water and adding more brush cleanser to keep rinsing the makeup out. I then towel dry the brush handle and the brush very gently and leave it on the side to dry. I work through all my brushes and then leave the rest of them on the side also. I find the foundation brush is a lot harder to get clean than the others so I always start with that one first. It doesn’t take too long for them to dry, but ensure they are fully dry before using them to apply your make up.

Are there any tips you guys use for cleaning make up brushes?

I have recently just bought Love Tanya so I will write a book review when I have finished it! Oh I forgot to mention…TANYA BURR FAVOURITED MY TWEET. Tanya Burr is my role model and I really look up to her. She is close to 3 million subscribers so I tweeted her and she favourited it. I was so happy I cried! I have waited for her to notice me for a very long time. I couldn’t believe it. You can see the screenshot below.

I hope you are all okay and enjoyed my blog post.
